TW are huge advocates of diversity, in particular gender diversity, with the drive coming from the very top of the firm.

We realized that we needed a different approach that would allow candidates the flexibility to explore their career aspirations longer term, without being seen to be actively looking. We wanted someone who would work with the board and our excellent in-house Talent team, who would take an original approach to encourage these individuals to explore the future, thus ensuring a potential pipeline of future Partners.

To help us meet these challenges we needed an objective, professional female, skilled at senior level hiring, and Julie Salamon fitted the profile perfectly.

We hired her as a Consultant with a brief to help improve our gender diversity balance at TW. She was tasked with drilling deeper into the marketplace, uncovering the hidden talent beyond the low hanging fruit and identifying a pool of talented but under-represented potentials.

Her role was not about trawling the market every time we had a live vacancy, but more about taking a strategic approach and cultivating longer-term relationships. We wanted those longer-term conversations, no mater how distant the end goal was. It was about reaching talented passive female stars, gaining their ear, and encouraging them to engage in conversations with us.

And she did just that. She was able to change perceptions on how candidates could talk to us without them feeling disloyal. She has an imaginative approach to developing these business relationships and through her perceptive and empathetic approach we are now talking to individuals beyond just the usual suspects. We are able to engage with talent who would otherwise not have felt the need to open conversations at this point in their career.

These conversations would not have happened if the initial approach had just been about the immediate filling of a live vacancy. Julie is able to have trusted dialogue with these passive candidates and that is the Holy Grail in Partner Recruitment.

She has been a highly effective ambassador for TW and this has worked very well for us, so I wholeheartedly recommend her dedicated, sensitive and respectful recruitment approach.

When Julie first approached me I was not actively searching but her longer term approach appealed and gave me a channel where I could discuss my long term career ambitions in confidence. Lawyers tend to be time poor so this proactive, unobtrusive style fitted in comfortably with my work and prevailing personal circumstances.

Julie listened to my circumstances and understood that if I were to contemplate an opportunity there would need to be a number of factors, not least a disability, to be taken into consideration. It was important for me to get the work life balance right, so agile working was key too and, whilst I work extremely hard, I didn’t want to squeeze five days into four.

My home was also in Leeds so I didn’t want to upsticks and relocate to London, but fortunately I am accustomed to working away from a core team and supervising and mentoring remotely.

It wasn’t an easy ask but Julie took all these factors into consideration and, working to my pace, discussed a role at Taylor Wessing in the Data Protection team that could accommodate my needs. Having worked with one of the Partners there before, I knew of their excellent reputation, particularly in diversity, so had a really good feeling about the firm and was keen to see if we could make this work.

Julie worked diligently with TW to help adapt the conditions to accommodate my needs. She guided me through the whole process giving sage advise and absolute clarity, always respecting my time, loyalties and current circumstances. She put my mind at rest on so many points and I was grateful to her as a sounding board and being a professional in my corner.

I was ultimately thrilled to accept the role of Senior Counsel with TW who have been amazing in tailoring the role to fit around my skills and needs.

Julie has bags of experience in the career counselling area and made the whole process very easy for me. The career counselling element was also an extra layer of service that I had not previously enjoyed so this really set Julie apart from other recruiters.

I first had contact with Julie a couple of years prior to my move to be Head of Strategy at Global Media and Entertainment. From the outset she really took the time to meet with me and discuss my skills in depth, and what I was looking for from any future career moves.

The roles she was recruiting for at the time weren’t quite right for me but we developed a longer-term business relationship and she remembered my interest in exploring a move from media agency to media owner side and later got back in touch when she had a good match.
