3 Navigating the critical ATS
Because technology now enables lightening speed access to millions of job listings, hiring managers have handed over the initial CV selection to filtering software – Applicant Tracking System (ATS). 98% of FTSE 500 companies now use ATS to filter incoming CVs, and SME’s are now following suit.
The ATS is an electronic gatekeeper and filters applicants based on numerous algorithms. Sounds straightforward doesn’t it – BUT there are multiple ways that a CV can confuse the ATS if the CV was not written with robot sensibilities in mind. First Impressions Count – The Evidence
A 2018 Tracking Study by Ladders in the US, used eye-tracking technology to record the amount of time recruiters initially spend looking at CV’s. They found that, despite fierce competition for talent in 2018, recruiters still skim read CVs in just 7.4 seconds!
That is just 7.4 seconds that you have to initially, grab their attention! Furthermore this was done during a period where there was fierce competition for talent.
